Ms. Tiffany Forrester; is 22 years old. she attended the North Ruimveldt Secondary School from the period 2013-2018 and has always loved Human and Social Biology. That passion led to her obtaining a distinction at CXC. Her dream was always to become a gynecologist.
Her journey at the University of Guyana started in 2018 after she wrote CXC in which she obtained eight subjects (1 Grade One, 6 Grade Two, and 1 Grade Three). “Going directly to the University after completing Form 5 was not part of my original plan; I wanted to further my studies at the 6th Form level at Bishop’s High School”. Unfortunately, life took a different path when she was not rewarded a spot there.
In August 2018; she applied for the University of Guyana’s Biology Program to read for an Associate Degree. Ms. Forrester started the semester late; “it was quite a hassle to work around a schedule for classes without having any friends at that time but I persevered”. It was while doing the aforementioned program that new love and meaning for all things science was instilled within her. “The Biology program was a foundation for where I am today“… She noted, “If you’re currently doing the program and want to know if it’s the right field for you take my advice; it is!” Ms. Forrester graduated with her Associate Degree in Biology in November of 2020 but still was left with the question “What next will I do”. After not being a shortlisted applicant for the University of Guyana Medicine Program to fulfill that dream of becoming a gynecologist she discovered the field of Optometry and registered without any fear or doubt as to whether she would get in… “I had that confidence and faith that I was already in”. She was shortlisted to study for my Bachelor’s Degree in Optometry in July of 2021. Ms. Forrester has always had an interest in eyes because of her family’s history of blindness and eye-related disorders; not excluding herself.
Exactly after joining the program; Tiffany’s uncle lost his sight due to advanced glaucoma, she says, “This was a confirmation for me that I had joined the right program. It is my dream to one day help him and others to see the world around them again”.
Ms. Forrester is currently in her third year of the 4-year program; “it has not been easy; many days I want to quit and move on to something else but the Lord is walking me through it every step of the way and I am reminded daily that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Here’s just a reminder to those currently studying or whoever comes across this sometimes it may seem as though things have not worked out for you; but in time to come you’ll realize that it DID work out for you. Don’t lose hope and most of all never give up.”
